Amazing how much space I have when it is empty.

The floors throughout the house are poured concrete. The dining room and kitchen had tile at some point in the past. It looks like the previous owner got tired of removing mastic and decided to stain it instead. Art?

Getting ready for demo

Welcome to our renovation

Our house was originally built in the 1970’a as a passive house. We are surrounded by trees and every window has a nature view. We love the way this house and property makes you feel but the down side is that nothing has been updated since the 70’s. We decided to take the original passive house vision and expand on it instead of knocking the house down and building a McMansion which seems to be the trend. Plus It’s hard to get much greener or more sustainable than restoring the building that already exists. We really hope to increase that connection with nature and bring the outdoors in.

We hired Architects Robert M Cain in 2020 to do the design and to manage the project.

We decided to do a small phase of the project in 2020 replacing the roof, but that idea ended poorly. I will go into the details later and what we learned from it to hopefully prevent others from having some of the same issues we did when you hire the wrong contractor and the wrong roofer.

But not to be undone by a bad start, we are finally about to bring our vision to life, and we are super excited to start again soon.

We hope you enjoy our blog. Stay tuned!
